Distance Learning Class OrientationsEnrollment in a distance learning course carries a companion requirement for the student to complete an in-person class orientation session at the Niceville campus. Orientation sessions are customized for each distance learning class and students are required to attend or to contact the instructor in advance to make alternate arrangements. Orientation sessions contain crucial information such as whether or not the course is self-paced, how to submit assignments, grading requirements, testing arrangements, and strategies for improving student success. Orientation sessions also provide not only the opportunity for students to meet other individuals enrolling in the same class, but also to evaluate enrollment in classes they might consider taking in the future. Institutional research has demonstrated that these orientation sessions are a considerable factor in the positive success rates of students participating in distance classes. Orientation schedules are posted beneath each distance learning course listing. Check the Schedule of Classes here, using the Advanced Search feature and specifying "Distance Learning " to display Distance Learning courses. Printed schedules will also be available in the right panel of this page and the main page several days before an orientation. |
